The Modern day Martyr : Charlie Kirk
On 10th September 2025, the world witnessed the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a man well-known for his Christian conservative values. He was an unapologetic believer in Jesus Christ and His Word. He was also a political activist, but more than that, he was a man bound to a cause : seeing America prosper and built back on Christian values at its foundation. A foundation which is evidently under attack in the western civilization. He sought to engage college-students on matters of the Christian faith, gender, race, abortion and political discourse.
His aim was to challenge the worldview of young people and dispel the lies the god of this age has blinded many people with, specifically with regard to transgenderism and abortion rights. He was a courageous man, having a God-given fire that never seemed to go out. In this generation, his voice went out as a beacon of God’s Light and Truth for the young people of America. But no one expected that his life on earth would come to such a shocking end. It exposed the hatred certain people had toward him, his views and his God. In a brief moment, his life was taken from him. But I can only imagine the joy of the Lord Jesus when He saw him, and how in that moment, Charlie must have experienced heaven.
It is a loss for our world that a bold and courageous voice like Charlie’s, which God ordained for such a time as this, has been lost. But what a gain! What a gain it is for Charlie to be with His saviour whom he loved and served. The Lord Jesus said, “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.”– Luke 14:26. Being there on the Utah Valley University campus, doing what he was called to do, Charlie was obeying the words of Jesus, putting his life on the line probably even after receiving numerous death threats in the past. His commitment showed that he had counted the cost of following the Lord Jesus Christ in the world that is totally hostile and opposed to Him and His Word.
Even though the bullet has silenced the voice of a servant of God like Charlie Kirk, he lives on. He lives on in glory forever with God. And it is apparent that something along with Charlie’s passing has happened in the hearts of many Christians on and after September 10th. Their lack of resolve to live for Christ died that day, and God has caused this event to stir the hearts of His people to live for Him with a bold witness and faith.
No longer will they hide behind the veil, no longer will they hide their faith and the reason for the hope that is in them. Charlie Kirk, the modern-day Martyr for the Christian faith may have passed on into glory, but his legacy and commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word remain as reminders for young Christians to live boldly, and to serve their King Jesus, as they continue to live on in this world.
